Adam Chicken Rice

Adam Chicken Rice has only three things on the menu – ayam or ikan penyet, chicken rice and roti john. Evidently this strategy has succeeded in winning over the crowds; it’s common to see a long queue in front of Adam Chicken Rice at any time of day!

The ayam penyet

The ayam penyet ($6) has a very appetising presentation, offering a vibrant myriad of colours. I was pleasantly surprised by the size of the chicken; besides being large in size, the chicken is also soft inside and crispy on the outside. The meat can be easily pulled apart, and isn’t oily in the slightest.

The rice is fragrant and coloured a nice yellow. The little fried bits scattered all over the plate also give a nice crunch. The soup is light, not greasy, and washes down the meal well. The best part for me is the chilli – albeit a little too sweet, I enjoyed the good kick of heat and texture of it. There’s a slight bitterness to the dish, probably due to the spices used. The dish also comes with a large piece of fried tofu, some cherry tomatoes and a few slices of cucumber.

chicken rice ($4)

The chicken rice ($4) comes with a yellowish rice which, as I’m told, is created using a secret recipe. The rice is fragrant, with the right amount of stickiness. The rice is accompanied by a huge piece of fried chicken, part of which is sliced neatly for ease of eating. The chilli also has a delightful tanginess, complementing the dish well.
